Objectives
OneSchoolSystem.org is a non-governmental human rights organization and education advocacy group seeking the merger of Ontario's public and separate school systems into one English language and one French language public school system. Our objectives in seeking such a merger are:
We are neutral on the provision of academic (non-sectarian) religious instruction in the public school system, as long as any such instruction promotes mutual respect and understanding by encompassing the richness and diversity of all faiths while favouring none in particular.
We are also neutral on the virtues of education tax credits for families using public school alternatives, subject to the following conditions:
- to eliminate religious discrimination in admissions and employment in publicly-funded schools, and
- to ensure better stewardship of the financial resources committed to the education of our children.
- Any tax credit offered for public school alternatives must apply equally to all Ontarians; including Ontario Catholics. A tax credit good enough for some should be good enough for all. OneSchoolSystem.org will vigorously oppose any education tax credit proposal that leaves Ontario Catholics with superior funding compared to families using other public school alternatives.
- Any tax credit offered for public school alternatives must not discriminate between religious and non-religious alternatives.
- Any tax credit offered for public school alternatives must be modest enough so as to not detract from the quality of education offered in the public school system or encourage an exodus from that system which would undermine the role of public schools in fostering greater tolerance and understanding between Ontarians of different backgrounds.
